The new concrete step barrier that is currently being installed on UK motorways and some trunk roads (currently excluding Scotland) will make a major contribution to road safety.
A recent report by the Transport Research Laboratory confirmed that the installation of concrete step barrier can result in 70% fewer accidents per kilometre of road.
Because the concrete barrier is maintenance free, the need for workers to put themselves at risk repairing barrier systems is eliminated. “During 2006, 2 workers were killed and 19 seriously injured in the course of their work on Highways Agency roads.” (source: HA)
